Bangle Size Guide India: How to Measure Your Size

The single most common bangle-sizing mistake is measuring the wrist. A bangle is a closed loop — it has to slide over your hand and knuckles to reach your wrist, so your hand's width at its widest point, not your wrist's circumference, is what actually determines your correct size.

How to Measure Correctly

  • Flatten your hand and bring your thumb in close to your palm, as if trying to make your hand as narrow as possible — this is the shape your hand takes when sliding a bangle on.
  • Measure across the widest part of your hand (usually just below the knuckles) using a flexible measuring tape or a strip of paper, then measure that length.
  • Alternatively, measure the internal diameter of a bangle that already fits you well and slides on comfortably.
  • If you're between two sizes, and comfort while wearing (not just getting it on) matters most to you, the slightly larger size is usually the safer choice — a slightly loose bangle is more comfortable than one that pinches while sliding over the knuckles.

Indian Bangle Sizing Convention

Indian bangles are typically sized in inches, measured as the internal diameter, commonly ranging from around 2.2 to 2.10 (read as "two-two" through "two-ten", in eighths of an inch above the base 2-inch mark) for adult women, with men's kada sizing running larger. If you already own a well-fitting bangle, checking its stamped size (if marked) is the fastest way to confirm your number for future orders.

A Few Practical Notes

Rigid bangles (a fixed closed circle) need to be sized correctly upfront, since they can't be adjusted afterward the way a bracelet with a clasp can. If you're ordering a bangle you can't try on in person — for a gift, or online — err very slightly larger rather than risk one that won't go on at all; a bangle that's a touch loose is a minor inconvenience, one that won't fit over the hand is unusable.

Quick FAQ

Should I measure my wrist for a bangle?

No — measure your hand at its widest point (across the knuckles with your hand flattened), since that's what the bangle has to pass over to reach your wrist.

What if a bangle is slightly too tight to get on comfortably?

Don't force it — a proper resize (widening the closed circle slightly) is the safer fix rather than repeatedly forcing a too-small bangle over your hand.

Do men's and women's bangle sizes differ?

Yes — men's kada and bangle sizing generally runs larger than women's standard sizing, reflecting the typically larger hand width.
